The ambient/Pagan folk Russian band Bjarla released a new music video for the song Thaw.

Hailing from Moscow, the group draws inspiration from the snowy open spaces, the forests, mythology and history from northern Europe. The name of the band reflects such inspiration, deriving from the Icelandic words “björt” (“bright”.) and “bjarmi” (“shine”).

Bjarla’s lyrics are written in Russian, English and Swedish, which are accompanied by the melodies of the mandolins, guitars, flutes, jouhikko, lyre, bagpipes and the jaw harp.

Credits

  • Alexandra Kurpiyanova (production, director, edition, colorgrade)
  • Dmitry Sarkisov (direction of photography)

Lyrics – Thaw

The firmament will hide,
The blizzard is swarming white.
Take away all thoughts,
Time gone with the wind.

Pour water to the guest,
Bolt the door for the night.
Remember that a handful of Earth
Is the heart of great worlds.

Snowflakes are spinning
To shine in the morning,
As the first tears of a new spring.

Whirlwind,
The cold of forgotten peaks
Will float,
The time of the melted ice floes.
And free
Rivers… Waves…

Pour water to the guest,
Bolt the door for the night.
Remember that a handful of Earth
Is the heart of great worlds.

Recently, the group also released a cover version for Forever Darkwoods from Bathory’s 2002 album Nordland I.
