Wardruna‘s Einar Selvik (Nordic Folk – Norway) revealed the lyric video for Hrafnsmál – The Words of the Raven, a song from the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla game soundtrack.
The song is part of the EP Out of the North, which contains seven songs from the original soundtrack of Ubisoft’s upcoming Viking themed game. The soundtrack was composed by Jesper Kyd and Sarah Schachner, while Einar was responsible for the original song, Hrafnsmál – The Words of the Raven.
Out of the North was released digitally by Lakeshore Records and is available on all major platforms.
Einar talked to Revolver Magazine about the inspiration for the song.
“‘Hrafnsmál – The Words of the Raven’ is a song based on an excerpt of a medieval Skaldic poem from around year 900 by the Norwegian skald Þórbjǫrn Hornklofi. Through historical instruments, their inherent tonalities, oral poetic traditions and language, I have aimed to make creations that could potentially bring the player closer to the theme and era of the game. Hearing the song together with stunning visuals from the game as well as lyrics and translation, gives great sense of what to expect in the actual game. Hope you will enjoy!”

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is based on the conflicts between the Viking invaders and the Saxons during late 9th century. The player will control a (either male or female) warrior named Eivor, who’ll have to battle Wessex’s King Alfred the Great’s army in order to begin a new life far away from your home country in Norway.
The game will be released on November 17 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia.
