Kjell Braaten (Nordic Folk – Norway) was joined by Agðir for the recording of a music video for Kyst, a song from his upcoming album Ferd.
Kyst means “coast”. It is a reference to the long Norwegian coastline, the excitement of those ready to adventure along it and about those who are left behind, waiting in the halls. The Norwegian musician used the sound of the lurs to reproduce the calling of the returning ships, and the cries to honor those that never returned.
The song was entirely rewritten ahead of its release with the help of his countrymen of Agðir, Ruben Gentékos and Tyra Rachel Torp-Bangsund, who added their own touches with the tagelharpa and vocals. They were also responsible for the production of the video.

The name of his upcoming album, Ferd, means “journey”, “travel”, and “to explore” and will focus on the cultural exchange between travelers and peoples from afar. According to Braaten,
“‘Ferd’ started out as a collection of pieces initially composed for short movies, documentaries, and plays, performed on old Norse instruments. It soon evolved far beyond that. Reworked with the help of talented fellow Nordic musicians brought together to give life to ‘Ferd’, the songs unveil a great journey with a common focus, while still telling each their own stories. I invited visual artists to illustrate each song of the album, which you can find in the extensive booklet together with their corresponding stories.”
Ferd will be released at By Norse Music on November 13th.

Treating music as a cross-cultural language, Kjell Braaten describes his compositions as “Nordic inspired acoustic world beat music.” He composes songs for theater, movies and also gives courses and lectures on ancient Scandinavian music. Apart from his solo careers, he’s also involved in other projects and is a session percussionist for Wardruna.
He has also recently released a video for Østavind, another single from the upcoming album.
