The sixth album by the Danish Nordic folk project DanheimHringrás, has been released today (15), bringing 11 new tracks.

Primarily instrumental, the album is permeated by a dark and mysterious atmosphere, but with some vocalizations here and there.

Danheim (something like “home of the Danes”) is a one-man project headed by producer Mike Olsen. Based in Copenhagen, Olsen started to get involved with music in the early 2000s. Since then, he has not stopped composing. Founded in 2017, Danheim has released five other albums before Hringrás.

The inspiration for the compositions comes from ideas and stories based on the darker side of the Viking Age, encompassing Norse mythology and ancient Danish folklore.

Olsen has almost ten years of experience with electronic and ambient music. This fact allowed him to recreate sounds inspired by the culture of the northern peoples.

He also says that his interest for this musical genre arose from a deep connection to his Danish roots:

“I hope to bring the Viking era and early Nordic history to life through my music and interests in Nordic mythology and folklore”

In addition to the music for Danheim’s albums, Olsen composed the soundtrack for the short film Wolves in Winter. All songs are written by him, with the exception of some collaborations with the Icelandic musician Sigurboði Grétarsson. He also runs a radio show featuring his songs and those of other artists in the genre, besides producing games.
