The Nordic folk band Byrdi released a new album, titled Byrjing.
Translated as “beginning or starting point”, Byrjing is the third album by the Norwegian group founded in 2012 by Nash Rothanburg and Jørn Øyhus (Nordein), in the ancient town of Hov. In 2014, the duo released their debut album, Eventyr. They were joined by singer and songwriter Andreas Paulsen for the second full-length, Ansur:Urkraft, which came out in 2017.
Jørn Øyhus is no longer in the band, but harpist Gulia Wyrd-Svartskog joined Byrdi, already leaving her contribution for the new album.

Byrjing features 8 tracks and many guest musicians, such as Kjell Braaten — who have collaborated with many renowned artists from Norway, such as Wardruna and Agðir — as well as Mathias Gyllengahm (Utmarken, Norrsinnt).
The album tells the mythological narrative of the Ragnarok and its subsequent new beginning: the dawning of a new cycle over the ashes of the burnt world.
“The storyline is both mythological and personal, reflecting great changes in our personal lives and serves as a bridge between the real world and the world of mythological information. Somethings come to an end, and in doing so, give birth to another.”
Byrjing is available in digipak-CD and in digital formats.
