Danheim reveals new music video: ‘Skylda’

Nordic Folk project Danheim released a third music video in less than two weeks, this time for Skylda, another tune from its latest album, Skapanir.

This time, Mike Olsen brings the listener back to the beautiful landscapes of Iceland, like he did with Kala. Skylda tells the tale of the Viking Age poet, warrior and farmer Egill Skallagrímsson, who is still celebrated by many historians as the finest among ancient Scandinavian poets.

The song made use of many different types of Viking age horns, such as the lur and Bronze horns.

Lyrics (Old Norse) / Egil’s Saga

Þat mælti mín móðir,
at mér skyldi kaupa

fley ok fagrar árar,
fara á brott með víkingum,

standa yp í stafni,
stira dýrum knerri,

halda sváu til hadnar
hoggva mann ok annan.

English translation / Egil’s Saga

“My mother wants a price paid
To purchase my proud-oared ship
Standing high in the stern
I’ll scour for plunder.
The stout Viking steersman
Of this shining vessel:
Then home to harbour
After hewing down a man or two.”

Skapanir was released in March, bringing 12 tracks inspired by the darker stories from the Viking age.
