Norwegian legendary Folk Rock band Gåte released Ulveham (Wolf Skin), a new album accompanied by an inspired music video for the title-track. The song was inspired by a 1000 years old Norse ballad and was picked by the band to exhibit the quality of Nordic music in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the finals taking place on May 11th 2024.
The stunning music video was produced by Helmet Films & Visual Effects and directed by Line Klungseth Johansen and Øystein Moe. Apart from kulning-powered Ulveham, serving as Norway’s representation by the band for the contest, the album includes tracks from the Vandrar EP, previously available only in digital format. Moreover, it incorporates the song Solfager og Ormekongen, taken from the acoustic album Nord, alongside a live rendition of the track Kjærleik, recorded earlier this year.
The album will also have physical version in the shape of a CD and Green Vinyl Gatefold-LP, which will be available on June 16th 2024, though you can already pre-order it. Bringing songs on the heavier and the more folkish sides of the band, the release will sure please both older and newer fans, as well as newcomers to their work.
Lyrics:
Ho svor meg einsam i skogjen gå
Og aldri blir eg heil og god
Før eg fær drukkje min broders blod
Translation:
Gåte – Wolf Skin
I was once a fair and lovely maiden
With a stepmother cruel, my mother she died
She transformed me into a swine and a needle
And sent me away from the king’s court
And my stepmother’s anger was most evident
When all the fairest ones liked me best
She gave me a skin like that of a gray wolf
She condemned me to wander alone in the forest
And never will I be whole and good
Until I drink my brother’s blood
