Norwegian band Gåte released a music video for Hemnarsverdet, a song from their recently released EP, Til Nord.
Inspired by an old Norwegian folk tale from the region of Telemark, the song tells the story of a personal vendetta with fatal consequences.
The song was based on an written version of the tale dating from 1853. In the video, two men start performing the Halling, a traditional Norwegian folk dance, before the fight to death.
According to the band, in the 18th century more than 50 killings were recorded as a result of battles between Halling dancers, probably explaining why, at the time, Halling dancing and music were seen as dangerous activities, that could lead to sinful actions and alliances with the Devil.
