Danish singer, multi-instrumentalist and actress Amalie Bruun‘s project, Myrkur, released a new live video from Glasgow, Scotland.
The band performed the Swedish folk song Fager Som En Ros (Fair as a Rose). The traditional song is about a young couple courting each other.
Myrkur fluctuates between black metal, folk rock, Nordic folk and gothic metal, while singer Amalie Brunn became originally known for her indie pop compositions. Educated in classical music, she conceived Myrkur as a black metal mixed project with ethereal and sophisticated vocals for the genre’s standards.
Her debut album, M, was co-produced by Ulver members, in addition to having members of Mayhem, Nidingr and Arch Enemy as guest musicians. The album gained great recognition for the project, leading Myrkur to play at major festivals such as Hellfest and Wacken Open Air.

According to Bruun, the tour left her exhausted and plagued by nightmares. She tried to get rid of them in different ways, without success. The singer ended up embracing them and taking note of the symbols, archetypes and animals that populated her dreams. She immersed herself in Norse mythology and folklore, intensifying her contact with nature and incorporating it in her compositions.
From the process she went through, came the folk “fruits” that she, from time to time, propagates around the world. She specialized in the kulning technique (an ancient and majestic cow herding call), using it in her compositions and performances. Bruun makes use of several instruments in her music, such as the violin, mandola, folk drums and the nyckelharpa.
Lyrics – Fager Som en Ros
Flickan står på golvet fager som en ros
Denna vackra gossen vill hon sova hos
Translation – Fair as a Rose
She is standing on the floor fair as a rose
This beautiful boy she wants to sleep with
Girl said to boy, Will you be my friend
Yes, please, if it were on this night
If you’ll be my friend, give me your hand
And if you love me so, take me in your arms
In the middle of the floor a bed is made
There I would rest with my little friend
