Norwegian Nordic folk music group Wardruna announced the release of a new album: Skald, recorded “live in studio” and scheduled for November 23, 2018.
The album will bring acoustic (or “scaldic”, in reference to the medieval scalds of the Nordic countries) versions of some of the band’s signature songs, as well as solo material by vocalist Einar Selvik. Skald will be released on CD and vinyl.

Wardruna was founded in 2003 by Einar “Kvitrafn” Selvik, Lindy-Fay Hella and Kristian “Gaahl” Espedal. Selvik and Gaahl were, then, members of the Black Metal band Gorgoroth. Their first album, ‘gap var Ginnunga was released in 2009. It was followed by Yggdrasil in 2013 and Ragnarok in 2016, together forming the Runaljod trilogy. The songs are about the runes that belong to the alphabet called Old Futhark and are immersed in the mists of Norse mythology. The band gained special notoriety after taking part in the soundtrack of the Vikings TV show on the TV channel History, with Einar himself making a cameo appearance in an episode of the third season.
The current permanent members of the group are vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Einar Selvik and vocalist Lindy-Fay Hella, reinforced in their live performances by several musicians skilled in Nordic historical and traditional instruments, including a performance in a Norwegian fjord, joined by the singer Aurora.
