Slavic Folk female group Laboratorium Pieśni released a beautiful “quarantine-style” video for Izgrela Mi, a song from their fourth and latest album, Rasti.

Izgrela Mi is a Bulgarian traditional song that tells of two witches dancing under the moonlight. The members of Laboratorium Pieśni decided to record a video from the isolation of their respective homes (or close to them) to cheer the spirits of their fans.

Poetic text translation – Izgrela Mi

The moon shined brightly on a forest path where two witches danced
One of them cast a spell on the forest the other on the river
Then a hajduk warrior begged them not to make the water and the forest dry out
The forest is his shelter and water washes away the signs of battle.

Laboratorium Pieśni (Song Laboratory) was founded in 2013 in Poland by Alina Jurczyszyn , a graduate from The Academy for Theater Practices “Gardzienice”, and Kamila Bigus, a graduate from The Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk. It was conceived as a group of female singers specialized in world/ethno/spiritual/mystic folk music. They are known for their traditional and powerful polyphonic singing, performing songs from all over the world, specially Ukraine, the Balkans, Poland, Belarus, Georgia and Scandinavia.

They also sing a capella, accompanied by shaman drums and other ethnic instruments such as the shruti box, kalimba, flute, gong, zaphir and koshi chimes, singing bowls, rattles etc. The singers also love to do voice improvisations inspired by nature in its wild and feminine aspects.

The group has already collaborated with renowned musicians from Poland, such as the singer Kayah and composer Atanas Valkov. The ensemble has also been graced with the Tryton Prize on Fama Festival 2014 for the greatest artistic personality of the festival.

Besides their music, Laboratorium Pieśni is also involved with theater performances, where they use traditional songs to tell stories about disappearing rites. They have already performed in over 15 countries, playing concerts or running workshops.
