The Nordic folk project by Swedish musician and photographer Ludvig Swärd, Forndom, released its new album, Faþir.

Faþir was released by the label Nordvis on April 3rd and comes out four years after the acclaimed Dauðra Dura. It has already received a great reception. A sign of this is that two of the album’s new songs now feature on Spotify’s official playlist Northern Spirits, together with all the heavy weights of Nordic and world folk music.

“There will always be someone there turning to us in times of need, someone to raise and teach us the lessons of life. But the very same one will also make us suffer and bleed, always with a certain aim, a certain quest, meant for ourselves. If we chose to follow him, we can expect a life of wealth, of higher knowledge and wisdom. But equally, it will also be a life filled with sorrow, tears and death. But he will be present throughout our path to comfort us, to give life and to heal.

He carries many names and comes in many forms; he is many, yet the very same one – the past as much as the present. We give him our sacrifices; we serve him with our blood. He lives within our spirit, within our memories; within us. No matter what we may call him, no matter what shape he may take, he is and will always remain; our father.”

The project started in 2012 after Swärd found a blog on Tumblr that combined music and photography, two of his passions. For this reason, he decided to follow the example and started the Forndom Tumblr page, which hasn’t been updated in almost an year. We can still follow his audiovisual work on Instagram, though.

Swärd comes from a family of musicians, which contributed to develop his talents with several folk instruments. He also has an academic background in History, with helps him delve deeper into the Nordic myths to write his songs.
