Pagan Folk veterans of Faun released a new single just in time for Beltane, titled Blót, with a music video produced and edited by Off Stage Productions.

The word Blót originates from ancient Norse, translating to “sacrifice.” These rituals aimed to establish equilibrium between giving and receiving. In their song, Faun adapts age-old texts like the Heimskringla from the 13th century and the Strassburger Blutsegen from the 11th century into music.

Accompanied by ancient instruments like the moraharpa, hurdy-gurdy, and flutes, along with polyphonic choirs, this music offers a glimpse into the musical and pagan cultural heritage of ancient Northern Europe and into their first studio album after Pagan, yet to be officially announced.

Lyrics:

Faun – Blót

Funanum mun ég blóta,
þess mun ég biðia.
Jörðunni mun ég blóta,
þess mun ég biðia.

álfa blót, sem úlfi, ótvin.

Himninum mun ég blóta,
þess mun ég biðia.
Jörðunni mun ég blóta,
þess mun ég biðia.

álfa blót, sem úlfi, ótvin.

To verstont taz plot.
verstande tiz plot.
stand plot.

Translation:

Faun – Sacrifice

I will sacrifice to the fire
and this I will ask.
I will sacrifice to the earth
and this I will ask.

A sacrifice to the elves took place here.

I will sacrifice to the sky
and this I will ask.
I will sacrifice to the earth
and this I will ask.

A sacrifice to the elves took place here.

There the blood stopped
Let this blood stand still
Stand still, blood!

The band has also announced several dates for their tours around Europe and North America (click to enlarge):
