Gealdýr (Nordic folk – Netherlands) released a beautiful music video for the new single, Yggdrasill.
The Dutch Skald, Jonathan Barendsma, returns with a soothing song dedicated to the world tree from Norse mythology.
“Yggdrasill is the sacred world tree and is the geographical center of the Norse spiritual cosmos. The rest of that cosmos, including the Nine Worlds, are rooted around it and held together by its branches and roots, which connect the various parts of the cosmos to one another. Yggdrasill is the Norse spiritual concept of how everything is connected with one another. We could say that you have different worlds where the soul goes to after our lives on Miðgarðr, Old Norse for Middle-enclosure (our world).
Through history we can see that many ancient cultures from all over the world had a spiritual or a religious concept of the ‘Tree of Life’ and of higher realms and lower realms. The song ‘Yggdrasill’ represents this global spiritual consciousness that we all share with one another. I hope that this song may bring you healing in this unstable time period we live in.”
