Sangre de Muérdago and Judasz & Nahimana partnered on December 2021 to compose, film and record Cantiga da Rainha das Águas (Song of the Queen of Waters) in only 4 days.

The collaboration actually began in May 2021, when the Galician band visited Judasz & Nahimana in Luxembourg for an artistic residence.

A cantiga is a medieval monophonic song, characteristic of the Galician-Portuguese lyric, also known as trovadorismo. The Portuguese lyrics were written by the singer Priscila da Costa.

The song comes accompanied by a poem penned by Pablo C. Ursusson, titled The Illusion of Stillness.

Lineup for the song:

  • Priscila da Costa: Voice, drum, bells
  • Angelo Mangini: synths, moog, bow, waterphone
  • Georg Börner: Viola, nyckelharpa, cymbal
  • Pablo C. Ursusson: Classical guitar, hurdy-gurdy, music box, bells.

Lyrics – Cantiga da Rainha das Águas

Deixa te levar pela corrente do mar
Equilíbrio elegante e suave

Se não sabes aonde vais
Segue o brilho dos corais
Iluminando a vida

Deixa te desses fios e embarca no navio
Revelando sonhos desconhecidos

Desaparecendo adentro do redemoinho
Para descobrir outro caminho

Nas ondas do mar
Nas ondas do mar

Se o peso do passado te empede de ficar ao meu lado,
Desaferrolha o cofre enferrujado

Envia me um pouco de carinho numa carta sem Destino,
Numa garrafa flutuando no mar

Mas não te deixas assustar por as brechas desse lar resgatando beleza sem fim

Nas ondas do mar
Nas ondas do mar

Poem – The illusion of stillness

On a cloud I was born,
with the winds I travelled,
no burden, no fog,
and through vast lands I witnessed.

Until I fell…

On grounds I rested, through filters of soil I descended,
into the cave,
into darkness and freezing waters,
into vast calm and silence.
Night and dreams.
The illusion of stillness.

Yet the light took me again,
through the spring I was reborn
and in streams I once again descended,
in rivers and waterfalls I was shaken.
And I witnessed,
other lands and other creatures,
another songs I heard,
another gusts I tasted.

Finally in the seas I learned,
the dance of the waves and the swirls,
until up to the air I returned,
as the Sun took me
and at last I was aware,
transformations and dream,
growth, love and care.
The cloud embraced me once again.

The two bands have previously released another cantiga , called Cantiga de Folhas e Agulhas (Song of Leaves and Needles), which was also created during the residence. It is a musical interpretation of a lifetime in 5 chapters: Birth, Youth, Depression, Calm and Death.
