Vikings Chant, the first album by the French Nordic folk band, Skáld, is now out, bringing 12 tracks sung in Old Norse and a cover version of one of Björk’s songs.
The French trio of skalds Justine Galmiche, Pierrick Valence and Mattjö Haussy have achieved considerable popularity among followers of the genre around the Internet. It is true that the band’s promotion efforts were very well executed, but the originality and quality of their music did the bulk of the work.

The group’s inspirations come especially from the poem Völuspá from the Poetic Edda and the first part of the Prose Edda, Gylfaginning. The texts were adapted and transformed into music by producer Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet and deal with Scandinavian cosmogony and episodes involving the gods of Asgard.
