Daemonia Nymphe unveils rare song in English

The Greek Folk band Daemonia Nymphe revealed one of their few compositions in English, Weddingone, recorded nearly two decades ago.

The song was recorded in Thessaloniki, featuring Australian singer and songwriter Louisa John-Krol as guest musician. Originally meant for another project, it was kept as a hidden gem until now.

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Spyros Giasafakis shared some words about Weddingone.

“We invited Louisa John Krol many years ago, should be around 2004 or a bit earlier if I am right, to record music for a new project called ‘Ghost Fish’ with her and Nikodemos Triarides, our sound engineer at the time. During these sessions we were recording many other tracks including pieces for my solo album and other compositions which were not meant to be included in a particular album. One of them is Weddingone which we present to you now after so many years. The melody is based on Daemonia Nymphe’s Hymenaios, the lyrics where written right there at the studio by Louisa, as well as the vocal melody. We hope you enjoy this composition. It is one of the very few songs of ours with English lyrics.”

Lyrics – Weddingone

One league to the morning
One dream to your bed
In the dusk of gloaming
Old Nod turned his head

Oh my love, no sorrow
Steeped your handsome brow
Lovely owl my marrow
Bore me by your crown

By the fair Apollo
Gleaming in the Sun
Amber and Ambuscado
Burned till we were done
