German project Bjorth is joined by Norwegian band Kveld in a new single titled Drengr, singing the codes of the Norse warrior of the Viking Age. A frequent collaborator with renowned artists of the Nordic Folk scene, Björn Hoppen hits the mark yet again with a great song created with his colleague from Norway.

In Viking culture, Drengr refers to a particular archetype of warrior or hero originating from Old Norse traditions. Described in Old Norse literature, a drengr epitomizes bravery, skill, and honor on the battlefield, adhering to specific codes of conduct. These codes include displaying courage in combat, unwavering loyalty to their lord or leader, and maintaining principles of honor and integrity. The concept of drengrhood symbolizes the idealized traits of a Norse warrior, frequently celebrated in sagas and poems from the Viking Age. While challenging to translate directly, “champion” or “badass” are sometimes used in English to convey the essence of this term.

Lyrics:

Bjorth & Kveld
Drengr

Hva er livet verdt uten ære?
Vet du hva du lever for?
Vet du hvem du lever for?
Finn mening i livet ditt og kjemp for det

Translation:

Bjorth & Kveld
Champion

What is life worth without honour?
Do you know what are you living for?
Do you know who are you living for?
Find meaning and fight for it.
