Polish dark folk one-woman band Ols released a music video for Starucha, a song from its latest album, Widma.

Widma (Spectres) was released in April through the Polish label Pagan Records as a concept album dedicated to late autumn, corresponding to old age for humans. It is a darker album compared to Anna Maria Oskierko’s previous recordings, drawing inspiration from neofolk ballads to atmospheric black metal.

Ols (a Polish word for alder forests growing on swamps and marshes) released its eponymous debut album in 2016. Anna Maria Oskierko is the woman responsible for all vocals, instruments, compositions, lyrics and arrangements.

Despite the frequent comparison to other artists in the pagan folk music scene, like Wardruna, Heilung or Myrkur, her signature use of polyphonic vocal harmonies combined with folk instruments grants Ols a very unique atmosphere.

Her songs tell about nature in all its manifestations, having humans as a part of, rather than above it. The human psyche is portrayed as a reflection of the natural changes caused by the cycles of nature: the sequence of the seasons, birth and death.
